Train With Us
Level 1
VBA Training
Our training is designed for anyone who works with people who smoke or use nicotine - whether you’re in healthcare, community services, or a frontline support role.
If you regularly come into contact with patients, clients or residents, you play an important part in helping people move towards better health. Our training gives you the confidence, skills and knowledge to have effective, supportive conversations about smoking and nicotine use.
We offer a range of training options to suit different roles and levels of experience. From introductory sessions like Very Brief Advice (VBA), which help you identify and signpost smokers, to more in-depth practitioner training, which equips you to deliver stop smoking support directly.
Our training is particularly relevant for:
GPs, pharmacists, practice nurses and HCAs
Health practitioners
Community workers, support staff and outreach teams
Anyone in a position to engage with priority groups across City and Hackney
All sessions are practical, accessible and designed to fit around busy schedules, helping you feel confident to support people in a way that is non-judgemental, personalised and effective.
By training with us, you’ll be contributing to a wider effort to reduce smoking rates across City and Hackney and improve health outcomes in your communities.
The Level 1 VBA Training is recommended to complete before the Level 2. This is delivered virtually as a 1-hour workshop. The VBA is open to all regardless of their role.
The four Very Brief Advice (VBA) training modules are essential training for anyone who comes into contact with people who smoke in
primary care (VBA+),
pregnant women (VBA for Pregnant Women),
parents and carers of children (VBA on Secondhand Smoke),
and those working with people experiencing homelessness (VBA+ for Homelessness Services).
